hear me out: making more money is easier than saving money
You can only cut expenses so much, but there’s no ceiling on how much you can earn

balcony view, bangkok
This might sound controversial, but it shouldn’t be.
As digital nomads, many time we’re trying to save every penny we can. I get it.
Taking the 5 a.m. flight instead of the 11 a.m. one to save $30.
Grabbing your 4th dinner in a row from 7-Eleven, yum.
Or booking a 32-bed hostel dorm to save an extra $10 a night, rip to your sleep.
Sure, you’re saving cash—but at what cost? Your time? Your comfort? Your enjoyment?
Here’s the thing: micro-saving won’t propel you forward. Let’s do some napkin math to break it down.
Let’s say you cut out your daily $5 latte to save money. Over a 250-workday calendar, you’ll save $1,250 a year.
Sounds nice on paper, but what’s the real cost?
Missing out on your favourite daily ritual
Skipping your caffeine boost
Losing the simple joy of walking to your favourite café
Missing that human connection
You don’t have a spending problem—you have an income problem.
Here’s how to grow your income:
- Job hop: Switching roles could land you a 15–20% salary increase
- Start a side hustle: It could be as small as covering your daily coffee to growing enough to cover your rent
- Raise your prices: Charge what you’re worth
The scarcity mindset keeps you focused on cutting back. The abundance mindset? It opens the door to more.
I challenge you to switch your mindset on this.
Your time to enjoy life is now. Work smart, earn more, and thank me later.

Frosted Tips of the Week:
Portugal Raises The Bar🇵🇹: Portugal has raised the minimum income requirement for its digital nomad visa. Applicants must now earn at least four times the national minimum wage, which is €870 per month. This means you'll need a monthly income of €3,480 to qualify AND show a bank balance of at least €9,840.
Plan Your Sakura Trip in Japan Asap: Hands down one of the most serene experiences ever is seeing the cherry blossoms in Japan. The predicted schedule is out (see image below). Don’t be shy about booking a pod hotel in Japan; there are plenty of co-working spaces all over the major hubs.
Build Up Your Status: I get sweet perks like free room upgrades, free breakfast, early check-in, free airport transfer, and more by simply having status on the major hotel platforms. Be sure you have an account on Agoda & Booking.com and aim for Platinum VIP and Genius level 3. ALWAYS check both, as sometimes the savings can be drastically different.

home city/country: San Diego, USA 🇺🇸
current base: Buenos Aires, Argentina
role/profession: Solutions Architect
# of years as a digital nomad: 5
“Jack here! Fairly new subscriber, but it has been quite a refreshing read so far. By trade I’m a solutions architect for a big US tech firm, but by passion, I am a traveller aiming to visit 100 countries before my 40th birthday (I’m 32 atm).
why Argentina? I’m sure this story has been told many times but the affordability along with the lively city really is amazing. A coworker of mine convinced me to visit, we had wine & steak, and I was sold.
what’s your biggest digital nomad hack? Probably make sure your passport has enough pages for stamps or you could end up like me and be at the embassy begging for an emergency passport.
biggest digital nomad f*ck up? One time my employer who didn’t allow international remote work found out I was in Morocco because I accidentally has my window in the background of my zoom. Rookie mistake. I got written up.
what’s your non-negotiable item when travelling? SPF 50. I’m a really white dude and the sun can take me out in a few minutes.
favourite & least favourite destination?
fav: Currently Argentina I can’t lie. It could be a bit safer though.
least fav: Hurts me to say but I was very uncomfortable in Naples. I wouldn’t go back.
okay last one, one piece of advice for a new nomad? The best way to meet other nomads is to definitely stay in co-livings. I’ve met some lifelong friends this way.
