issue 002 - Christmas Edition

and all the digital nomad wanted for Christmas was an early check-in

3 strangers all staying frosty - big white, canada on film

Happy Sunday, fellow digital nomads—how are we feeling?

Christmas is just three days away, and with it comes a mixed bag of emotions

For us nomads, the holidays can be a weird time

Some of us are back home, surrounded by family and enduring endless rounds of "so, what is it you actually do?"

Others are waking up solo on the other side of the world, sipping coffee and wondering if a bowl of spicy Buldak and a beer counts as Christmas dinner (it absolutely does).

There is close to zero normality in this life we live, so enjoy it your way.

Okay, let’s dive in.

Frosted Tips & Updates of the Week:

  •  Remote Year Shutting Down: A major hit to the digital nomad community. After nearly a decade of pioneering work-and-travel programs, new ownership, and a wave of new remote workers, somehow the ship still sunk. Well, times change. Maybe digital nomads would rather do their own planning and booking for a fraction of the cost.

  • China Is Calling: Picture this: tranquil Chinese countryside vibes meet cutting-edge tech in the ultimate digital nomad paradise. Too good to be true is what I would say BUT China has unveiled its first Digital Nomad International Village in Shanghai's Caojing town. My hot-take is that this turns into a massive success story.

  • Jeju Hear About it: Dreaming of island life with a side of K-pop? South Korea’s Jeju Island is rolling out its very own Digital Nomad Visa. This is specific to Jeju Island and not mainland South Korea. How does this day sound: sunrise on the beach, iced coffee, work, waterfall swim, kimchi, volcanic landscape, noraebang, soju, repeat?

remote roles of the week:

I have zero affiliation with these roles & companies, I simply want to see you win and if the opportunity fits, great.

Spotlight Job Posts This Week: 3️⃣

Codeless LLC - Remote Technical Writer: This one is for the devs who love to write. If you have the technical knowledge (and the passion to write about it), this is worth checking out. You should be competent with languages like JavaScript, Python, Kotlin, and English (ha ha) and deeply understand the state of AI. This role is fully remote and pays in USD 💰

Remote.com - Senior Product Marketing Manager: Nobody embraces remote work like these guys. I mean, their domain is literally remote.com–that’s dedication. If you’re a stellar marketer who can put ideation to strategy to implementation for their exciting product, then click that blue link!

Subscript - Remote Software Engineer (Frontend, Backend, or Full Stack): Small team, big dreams. Subscript is building the ultimate suite for finance teams and is looking to add to their small dev team. Here’s their stack: Postgres, Node.js, Reach, and soon-to-be running on AWS. Still with me? Good. They are a true remote company and don’t care where you live as long as you have wifi and can build. If I were a dev, I would be all over this.

Nomad Diaries: Luís

Digital Nomad Profile
home city/country: São Paulo, Brazil 🇧🇷
current base: Bali
role/profession: Front-end developer
# of years as a digital nomad: 3

“What’s up? I’m Luís, a front-end developer from Brazil who’s been coding and traveling the world for the past three years. I specialize in building clean, responsive websites and apps (hit me up). I’m all about making stuff that looks great and works even better.”

why Bali? Bali isn’t just the beaches or the sunsets–though those are awesome–it’s the balance this place offers. I know Bali has a rep for being super basic, but there actually is a reason why people love it here. Aside from the crypto bros and wannabe influencers, it’s a good spot.

what has been the biggest challenge as a digital nomad?  Finding balance. Constantly moving means adjusting to new time zones and getting a new routine.

what’s your biggest digital nomad hack? A portable hot spot for sure. Too many times the wifi in cafes suck. It has saved me one too many times.

biggest digital nomad f*ck up? My biggest digital nomad f*ck up was not double-checking visa requirements before heading to a new country.

what’s your non-negotiable item when travelling? A solid power bank. I feel like my batteries are always low on my phone and laptop.

favourite & least favourite destination?

Fav: Surf, sunset, and beer. This goes to Bali.

Least fav: Phuket bro, especially the touristy areas like Patong, felt overwhelming with its endless bars, shops, and party scenes. Don’t go.

okay last one, one piece of advice for a new nomad? Embrace flexibility. Things won’t always go as planned—whether it’s missed flights, bad Wi-Fi, or unexpected changes—so being able to adapt and roll with it makes life a lot smoother.

📍Pin It: Tbilisi, Georgia

Tbilisi, Georgia

Maturing as a digital nomad is realizing you don’t always have to choose the sunny beachy destination and instead opt for the bustling city in the Caucasus mountains like Tbilisi, Georgia.

At a glance:

  • average monthly cost of living: $1,500 USD

  • a fast-growing community of digital nomads and no shortage 24/7 co-working stations. Some that stand out: The Hub, Impact Hub, and my favourite, Digital Jungle (for real, this place is crazy)

  • narrow cobblestone streets, thousand-year-old structures, and Sulfur baths

  • offers a visa that allows remote workers to stay for up to 1 year

  • no minimum income requirement

  • hit the slopes at Gudauri only 2 hours away ⛷

  • maybe even do some insane training with Tbilisi’s own, UFC Bantamweight Champion, Merab Dvalishvili

Are you ready to tell your friends that you’re not in Georgia, the state in the US but in Georgia, the former Soviet republic?

Digital Jungle Co-working

If co-living isn’t your vibe, here is the Airbnb find of the week for Tbilisi. You can’t tell me the vibes aren’t immaculate here.

My TikTok feed has been flooded with videos using this song lately, (iykyk) and I was reminded of just how damn good it is. For that reason only, it’s the jam of the week.

If you made it to the end, you’re a true warrior.

Appreciate you, stay frosty.
