If you’re looking for a sign to take the leap and living abroad, this is it.

Back in 2023, I stayed 1 month in this digital nomad co-living in a cozy coastal Spanish town with 14 strangers. It was definitely an impulsive decision, but one of my best.

I was sitting in a café on Canada’s West Coast, scrolling my laptop, when I found this dreamy coliving tucked away in Southeastern Spain—geared for digital nomads to work, connect, and enjoy the local culture. The coworking lab, the beaches, the mountains, the quiet town—I was sold. Booked it to arrive in 3 days. No flights, no bags packed, just a 33-hour journey coming my way.

Four flights and a bus ride later, I arrived not knowing what to expect the next 30 days.

I’d always done solo Airbnbs or hotels as a nomad—living with 14 random people wasn’t my thing, so I thought. I won’t ramble about it all.

I’m the shadow

The real win? Your network grows deep. Not some shallow networking-event BS. We lived together, cooked together, sang bad karaoke till dawn, shared the raw stuff—good and bad. A month in, those 14 strangers became lifelong friends. Met Seb, a French app dev whiz; Stan, my Slovak SEO and content guy; Jeroen, a Dutch digital banking pro; Tori, a U.S. startup founder; Luisa, a Brazilian lawyer; Didier and Julien, software engineers from the UK and France. You get the drift.

Here’s the gist: nomad friendships are wild. You’re always chasing schedules. My buddy Stan from that trip? Two years later, we’re still out of sync—I thought Thailand, he’s off to South Africa. Typical DN chaos.

classic Stan message

The list goes on. But you get what I’m saying.

Take the leap. If you’re a tad nervous, I suggest your first DN experience is at a coliving. Below’s a list of spots I’ve tried or heard solid things about from the DN crowd:

If there are any good ones you recommend, would love to add them to the list!

Today’s Agenda:

  • Frosted Tips ❄️: Skyscanner fun, VPN insane deal, Philippines DN Status

  • Remote roles of the week 💻: Fresh gigs to bankroll your roam

  • Our Weekly Sponsor: Hubspot

  • DN F*ck Ups - Nomad Diaries 📔

  • Pin It: Location of the week 🗺️: a small Portuguese beach town

  • Jam of the week 🎧

Frosted Tips of the Week:

  • Flight Hack Unlocked ✈️: Skyscanner’s new “Everywhere” feature is clutch for nomads. Pop in your departure city, leave the destination blank, and it spits out the cheapest flights worldwide. Found a $200 flight from Vancouver to Lisbon last week—beats the usual $900. Pair it with Google Flights’ price alerts to snag deals when they drop. Less cash, more stamps. This is probably the best feature to ever be released for DNs btw.

  • Double-Check Your VPN Game 🔒 : Remote work means solid security, right? NordVPN and Surfshark just rolled out promos for 2025—Nord’s got a 2-year deal at $3/month with 3 months free, Surfshark’s at $2.50/month with similar perks. Test both (they’ve got 30-day refunds) and lock in before you bounce to spotty café Wi-Fi. Saved my ass in Vietnam last month when a sketchy network tried to phish me. I don’t get anything from this, it’s an insane deal I wanted to share!

  • Philippines Visa Buzz🌴 🇵🇭: Big news—Senate Bill No. 2991 just dropped, proposing a Digital Nomad Visa for the Philippines. If it passes, you could stay up to a year (renewable for another) with proof of remote income, health insurance, and a clean record. No final income threshold yet, but it’s a sign the Philippines wants in on the DN game—already ranked 7th for remote work hubs in 2023. Keep an eye on this; it could be your next cheap, beachy base.

remote roles of the week:

Fresh of the press.

I have zero affiliation with these roles & companies, I simply want to see you win and if the opportunity fits, great.

Spotlight Job Posts This Week: 3

Marketing Operations Strategist - Power Digital: Standard marketing role that’s fully-remote in the US. This marketing agency has a lot of open roles right now, hurry there to check it.

Senior Copywriter - POP: If you’re a wiz with words & can find the intersection between B2B & excitement with an SEO-focus, check this out. A rare find with AI basically wiping out most copywriting roles. Crazy times.

Affiliate Specialist- Awesome Motive - I’ll keep it real, this is a relationship/sales role for someone who is well-versed in the affiliate space. Fully-remote, USD, all that good stuff, but you’ll need to have experience in the affiliate marketing world to thrive here.

Nomad Diaries: DN F*ck Ups

Changing things up a bit from our weekly interview (back next week)!

I posted a thread on r/digitalnomad to ask everyone what is their biggest digital nomad f*ck ups were. It received a whopping 128k views and more than 220 responses. Let’s look at a few. Also – another reminder of how powerful reddit is for user research.

📍Pin It: Carvoeiro, Portugal 🇵🇹

Praia Do Carvoeiro

I can’t say that you’ll meet plenty of other digital nomads here in this little tucked away paradise on the southern coast of Portugal, but it’s worth considering. Head there in the off-season and have paradise all to yourself.

  • 📍 Pin It: Carvoeiro, Portugal 🇵🇹

  • 💰 Cost of Living: Cost of Living: ~$1,200-$1,700/month for a solo nomad—affordable if you can find a studio or 1br listing in off-season

  • 🛂 Visa Info: 90 days visa-free in Schengen for most; Portugal’s Digital Nomad Visa at €3,480/month income hooks you up for a year

  • 🌞 Scenic Vibes: Hike the Carvoeiro Boardwalk along jagged cliffs or peek into the Algar Seco caves—raw nature without the crowds

  • 🍽 Food & Culture: I could list far too many places but you’re on a coast with fresh seafood everywhere. You can’t go wrong.

  • Cowork: There isn’t a dedicated coworking here but that’s the tradeoff for a smaller town. Worth it.

a walk at sunset on this boardwalk will cure any blues

Plug in, lock in. This rooftop set by Fred Again will have you in flow mode for our Jam of The Week.

Somehow we always end up here, the end of the issue.

Appreciate you, stay frosty.
