The lore of being a digital nomad knows no limits

Last week, I answered emails while getting a $10 foot pedicure in Da Nang. A few days ago, I was in Bangkok, catching up with a fellow DN over coffee. Today, I’m planning the structure of this email from the back of a truck in rural Isan, Thailand.

Life has felt like a real game of GeoGuessr tbh.

Sometimes, I have to pinch myself. In another life, I could be stuck in rush hour, doing the same commute, the same routine, as weeks turn into years.

The rat race is real, here’s the proof. Thankfully, I’m not in it.

If you’ve ever thought about escaping the traditional 9-to-5, start by asking yourself the right questions:

🔹 Can my current role be done remotely? If yes, how can I craft a proposal to convince my manager? (This works best if you’re already a top performer.)

🔹 Are companies hiring for my role remotely? If so, what’s stopping me from applying?

🔹 Am I missing key skills for remote work? If yes, what are they—and how can I start learning them now?

🔹 How can I align my experience with remote job opportunities? Even if I need to start at an entry-level role, how can I tailor my resume to stand out?

💡 And as I always say - become competent with AI!!! AI isn’t here to take your jobs, but people who leverage it will. Don’t get left behind.

Frosted Tips of the Week:

  • Dubai Becomes Content Creator Paradise 🇦🇪: Dubai wants 10,000 influencers—offering a tax-free, 10-year visa, full business ownership, and a $40M support fund. Ready to level up? Applications are open via Creators HQ. An insane opportunity for content creators.

  • Build Your Brand—Don’t Overthink, Just Start: Your personal brand is your safety net—something that exists beyond any job. Passionate about something? (Of course you are.) Open your front camera, hit record, and start talking about it. Post it on YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and IG Reels. Repeat 50 times. Then, take your videos and remix them into written content. Boom—you’ve built a portfolio. The more you create, the more opportunities find you. Trust me, this opens more doors than you can imagine. 🚀

  • No Minimum Income & The Nicest Beaches: Hidden in the Dutch Caribbean, this tiny island boasts some of the most stunning beaches on the planet—without the luxury price tag. Even better? Its Digital Nomad Visa has no minimum income requirement with their Digital Nomad Visa program.

Most beautiful beach I’ve ever see!

Nomad Diaries: Jackson

Digital Nomad Profile: Jackson
home city/country: San Diego, California, USA 🇺🇸
current base: Tamarindo, Costa Rica 🇨🇷
role/profession: Legal Tax Advisor
# of years as a digital nomad: 3

For a good chunk of my 20s, I was a car salesman. The plan was to only sell cars for 1 year and then move to Australia to work at a surf shop. Well, things don’t always go to plan. I ended up selling cars for half a decade, Covid happened, the dream to move to Australia kind of faded away. Long story short, I fell into my career in Legal Taxes and Australia is still on the list! For now, Costa Rican waves are a nice change too.

Tamarindo, Costa Rica eh? How is that going? Costa Rica is a pretty easy digital nomad spot when you’re in the US. Direct flights, big nomad community, and feels a bit like home away from home. At least Tamarindo and Santa Teresa do. It’s not as cheap as other spots I see on here but I do shared living so we chip away at the costs.

what’s your biggest digital nomad hack?  finding a shared interest with another digital nomad outside of work. I love to surf and I find myself connecting wayyyy more with other digital nomads while surfing instead of just walking up to someone on their laptop asking boring questions.

How do you manage relationships while being a DN? I actually recently got out of a long-term relationship and I’m not looking to jump into anything new soon. I feel like when I’m looking, it never comes or feels forced.

biggest digital nomad f*ck up? Telling immigration officers I work remotely while on a tourist visa. Idiot.

what’s your non-negotiable item when travelling? Plenty of smaller bills for tips. The $1 bills for tips in Costa Rica are clutch. If you earn remotely, I think you should always tip the locals for good service.

Favourite & least favourite destination?

fav: I haven’t been to too many spots so I guess I’ll say here in Tamarindo. Decent surf, good food, nice beach, what more can you ask for?

least fav: Playa Del Carmen was extremely underwhelming and expensive.

okay last one, one piece of advice for a new nomad? If you’re out there selling cars with a dream of working remotely, it’s possible. I used to sit at my shared desk in the showroom all day staring at the parking lot for people to drive in just to try to sell them a Hyundai. Now I stare at the ocean looking at the waves at 7am with a coffee in hand.

📍Pin It: Tamarindo, Costa Rica 🇨🇷

As someone who has spent a decent chunk of time in Tamarindo, it’s a cool spot to feel like you’re in SE Asia without actually going there. But to be fully transparent, it really is getting expensive af and I think it’s really pricing itself out as a staple location for DNs.

Let’s run it down:

  • 📍 Pin It: Tamarindo, Costa Rica 🇨🇷

💰 Cost of Living: ~$2,100-$2,700 per month for a solo nomad—pricier than other spots in Costa Rica (if you can find shared living from a FB Group or referral)
🛂 Visa Info: Most nationalities get 90 days visa-free. Extend by doing a border run or explore Costa Rica’s Rentista Visa for long-term stays.
🏄 Perfect for Beach Lovers: Surf world-class waves at Playa Tamarindo or Playa Grande, or relax at the quieter Playa Langosta.
🍽 Food & Culture: Grab fresh ceviche at Nogui’s, sunset cocktails at El Be! Tamarindo, or try a casado (Costa Rican staple) at Soda el Buen Comer.
🧘 Stay Active: Take yoga classes at Ser Om Shanti, work out at Revive Wellness Center, or go on a catamaran cruise along the coast.
🌎 Digital Nomad Community: Connect with like-minded travelers through the Tamarindo Digital Nomads Facebook Group.
🏠 Housing Tips: Airbnbs are convenient, but long-term rentals in nearby areas like Playa Avellanas or Villa Real can save you cash—check Facebook groups or Airbnb for deals.
