Digital Nomad sees more hurdles with limited roles

BKK flourishing

Good morning.

Last week was pretty insane. I was having lunch when I felt really dizzy and then everything began trembling and shaking.

I was indeed experiencing my first 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Bangkok.

Throughout all my travels, this is probably at the top of the list of some of the craziest sh*t to happen. It really did feel like a scene out of a movie. The streets were full from thousands fleeing their buildings, high-rise apartments were swaying back and forth, screams and panic in the air.

But despite all this madness, there was no looting, no fights, everyone was looking out for each other. There was even a lottery ticket vendor outside the 7-11 who’s motherly instincts came out to ensure I stay there and do not return back to my apartment, while also providing me with all the latest updates from her friends on Facebook.

After a few days out of the city, I’m back in Bangkok and life feels normal again.

Not your typical line item when thinking of the Digital Nomad life but a potential reality none the less.

Key reminder: prioritize your fitness, you will rely on it one day.

Anyways, I’m safe & sound–let’s dive in.

More than 67% of you who responded are actively seeking a remote job or planning to transition this year.

Let's have a look at the current remote-work field conditions:

The Bad: The job market’s a slaughterhouse right now—layoffs are rampant, AI’s taking roles, and only 20% of LinkedIn’s job postings are remote–despite getting 60% of applicants. It’s a fistfight out there. And unless you know someone or are really damn good, it may feel impossible.

The Good: We’re adding a new section each week called Level Up where we drop one golden nugget on resume glow-ups, in-demand skills, free courses, content plays, and different methods to find roles. After all, this is a Digital Nomad newsletter which requires remote work.

Today in Staying Frosty:

  • Frosted Tips ❄️: Interview tips, Cyprus DN Visa, New DN Tool

Frosted Tips of the Week:

  • Increase your chance at landing that interview: That feeling of applying to a role, checking your inbox everyday praying for a response and getting ghosted. We’ve all been there. Every application should be it’s own project with a tailored resume, keywords, and reaching out to the right contacts. Many companies even have paid referral programs for their employees, leverage this.

  • Cyprus joins the DN party: Dreaming of a tax haven & some euro Mediterranean life? Well if you make €3,500 after-tax, the visa fee is only 70 euro. I’ve never been but I’ve only heard good things.

  • El Salvador Flexes New DN Visa - This may be the most lucrative DN Visa yet. El Salvador just dropped their new DN visa and the requirements are surprisingly friendly: min income of $1460/month, health insurance, valid passport, clean criminal record, that’s all. Stay up to one year, multiple re-entries, but the application fee is nearly $3k. Volcanos, beaches, good surf, great people, and now safety. Is this on your list?

  • Where can you live for $2k/month: Nomadlio.com drops 5,698 cities (vs. Nomad List’s 1,367), monthly Airbnb costs through 2025, real Wi-Fi speeds (Bangkok’s 320 Mbps, not 25), filters for speed, rent, living costs, weather, population, visas, plus 1,500+ communities (open-source soon). Free, no fluff—plan your nomad gig now.

Level Up ⬆️

AI won’t replace you as quickly as someone who leverages AI will.

This weeks tool: Runway ML - Fast and controllable tools that allow you to create high-fidelity content in an a way that’s never been possible before.

Forget graphic designer gigs, those will cease to exist. Although they deserve their respect as the OG digital nomad gig. Instead, get comfortable in RunwayML and be a storytelling & content creating machine (no pun intended). Don’t waste credits with weak prompts either–begin prompting like a pro right away with this guide.

Beef up your LinkedIn with certifications:

Paid Course: DataCamp - For $25/month, you get access to over 500 courses–many with certifications that you can put on your resume and LinkedIn. Ideal for anyone looking into Data Scientist, Data Engineer, or diving into AI Fundamental for the first time. This would be one avenue to pursuing to be a Prompt Engineer. This is not sponsored btw.

FYI: If you lack job experience, your resume needs personal projects or certifications to really stand out.

📍Pin It: Fukuoka, Japan 🇯🇵

Naka River, Fukuoka, Japan

Fukuoka

There is much more to Japan than just Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto. Meet Fukuoka, the home of ramen. A place that has everything and more, a true 24-hour city, but also allows you to feel like you’re in a whole new world.

Let’s run it down:

  • 📍 Pin It: Fukuoka, Japan

  • 💰 Cost of Living: Depends on your flexibility–solo it could be done on a budget of $3k/month. With a partner/roomate, cut that in half with shared bills

  • 🛂 Visa Info: Visa Info: 90 days visa-free for most; Japan’s remote work visa needs $40K/year income—six month tay

  • 🍜 Food & Culture: $5 Hakata ramen at Ichiran—slurp where it all began

  • 💻 Cowork: No shortage of cafes to work from but if coworking space is more your vibe, check out The Company

  • 🏡 Housing Tips: Airbnb has got hefty at about $3k/month for a small pad. Instead book long-term, GaijinPot scores $700-$1200/month pads.

Have you ever been to Fukuoka?

It wouldn’t be a weekly newsletter without the jam of the week. I feel like I can forever with this song on. I recommend plugging your headphones in for this one.
